The dates are set, the artists are lined-up, and Dogwood 2010 is set to become a classic! Our weeklong festival, in Dowagiac, Michigan, brings the best in fine arts to southwestern Michigan, now in our 19th year. We're looking forward to hosting a concert with the 'original british invasion band' Herman's Hermits, featuring front man Peter Noone. Their sounds from the '60s are sure to revive old memories of years gone by.
Author Dennis Lehane has written several award-winning novels, including The Given Day and the New York Times bestseller Mystic River, which was later made into an Academy Award-winning film. Another novel, Gone, Baby, Gone, was also adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film. Shutter Island, his latest novel to be adapted for the screen, is due out this fall starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese, there is a lot of good buzz already for this film!
Chicago Tap Theatre is an organization with a multifaceted mission: to preserve America's indigenous dance form, to promote that dance through story-based shows and innovative presentation, to educate the community and make tap dance accessible to a broad spectrum of people and to foster relationships with other arts organizations. It's more than just your average dance show.
We round out our week-long festival with a night (and master class) with storyteller Doug Elliot, an artist lecture and reception with noted sculptor Tuck Langland, perennial favorites Toast 'n' Jam (a free musical event for children ages 3 to 12), the Dogwood Tea, and an evening of theatre with the Beckwith Theatre Company.
Also we're offering our first ever "Culinary Arts" event with "Big Daddy" Aaron McCargo Jr., winner of season four of The Next Food Network Star and star of Big Daddy's House on the Food Network. Bring your appetite, it's going to be an evening of big, bold flavors and fun!
