Author of the "Adventure Club,"

"American Chillers" and

the "Michigan Chillers" series

Rand believes “Reading isn’t something you do; it’s a place where you go.”   That is exactly how his writing career began.  Rand honed his overactive imagination while fly fishing by the Michigan moonlight.  He began to fall in love with the night woods, the dark shapes, and the sounds of the midnight shore. Most of Jonathan Rand’s earliest stories for children begin with a creepy premise set somewhere in Michigan.  Rand   has written 69 books (using his different pen names): Michigan Chillers series, American Chillers series, the Freddie Fernortner First Grader series, The Adventure Club series, and novels for adults.  Some of the fun and enticing titles in the Michigan Chiller series are: Mayhem on Mackinac Island, Aliens Attack Aplena, A ghostly Haunting in Grand Haven and Kreepy Klowns of Kalamazoo.

Adult titles Include: St. Helena, Ferocity, The Laurentian Channel, The World is Black and White, and Bestseller, which was made into a move of the same name.

“Books don’t have covers, they have doors,” says Jonathan Rand.  As much as Rand loves writing, he is even more passionate about fostering the “love” of reading and writing in young people.  During the school year, Rand travels the country visiting schools and has created a writer’s youth camp.  “Author Quest” is a 4-day/3-night camp for 10-13-year olds at Wolverine Camps in Wolverine, nestled in beautiful northern lower Michigan.  Students are enveloped in writing courses, instruction, and classes with Rand and other published authors.

Rand also owns his own bookstore, Chillermania!, in Indian River, MI. The store includes his books, clothing, and various quirky items. When Rand is in the store, adults are often more star struck than the kids. Chillermania! is more than a store, it is a destination.
